Is an AVGS voucher right for you?

Five short questions give you clarity on your chances. At the end you'll see your fit assessment compared side by side.

The check asks whether you are registered as a job seeker or at risk of unemployment, how concrete your business idea is, whether you want structured support, how important free coaching is to you, and whether you could start within the next 4 to 6 weeks.

Frequently asked questions about the AVGS application

The essentials on eligibility, process, and costs, answered briefly. For more detail, see our guides to the AVGS.

What is an AVGS and how does it help you?

The AVGS (Activation and Placement Voucher) is a funding instrument from the German Federal Employment Agency or job center. It lets you use our startup coaching completely free of charge, instead of paying for it yourself.

Who can apply for an AVGS?

You may be eligible not only if you are registered as unemployed, but also if you face impending unemployment (notice given, contract ending), are self-employed without sufficient income, or are a graduate without a follow-on job. The details are in our guide to AVGS eligibility.

Do I have a legal right to the voucher?

No. The AVGS is a discretionary benefit: whether you get it is decided by your caseworker at the employment agency or job center.

How exactly do I apply for the AVGS?

If you receive ALG I, the employment agency is responsible; on basic income support, it's the job center. There's no prescribed format: you can apply in person, in writing, or by email. We give you the service description of the coaching and the other documents. Our guide Apply for AVGS: step by step walks through the five steps, and the AVGS checklist lists the documents you need.

Are there any costs for me?

No. Once your AVGS is approved, the Employment Agency or job center covers 100 percent of the coaching costs. You pay no contribution of your own.

How long does approval take?

That depends on your local agency, but it usually moves quickly. Important: only start your coaching once you have received the approval notice.

What if my application is rejected?

That can happen, because the responsible office decides at its own discretion. If it does, we talk through other options for your venture with you. Just get in touch with us.
